Your work environment

Afghanistan remains one of the world's most protracted and complex humanitarian crises. Decades of conflict, political transition, economic collapse, and recurrent natural hazards—including droughts and a recent earthquake—have severely eroded livelihoods, basic services, and household coping mechanisms. Over half of the population requires humanitarian assistance, with acute food insecurity and critically high malnutrition rates, particularly among children, further compounded by large scale returns of Afghans from neighboring countries. Humanitarian actors operate in an increasingly constrained and complex environment. At the same time, humanitarian funding continues to decline despite escalating needs, threatening the continuity of life saving assistance and placing millions of people at heightened risk. Within this context, the Nutrition Cluster plays a critical role in coordinating nutrition programming across the country, in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including international and national NGOs, UN agencies, and the Ministry of Public Health, alongside other partners. The Cluster operates within the broader humanitarian coordination architecture, which is currently undergoing a transition.

Your position and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Country Director, you will work with the Nutrition Cluster Coordinator and nutrition partners to provide overall leadership for the Nutrition Cluster in Afghanistan; and to facilitate the process of ensuring a coherent and effective emergency and humanitarian nutrition response by partners.

More precisely, your missions will be as follows :

  • Contribute to the nutrition cluster strategy design and responses planning
  • Coordinate the cluster activities in collaboration with all stakeholders
  • Monitor the nutrition partners activities
  • Advocate and mobilize resources for the implementation of nutrition cluster strategy

Your profile

You hold a Master’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Medicine, or a related field, and you have 7–10 years of demonstrated experience in humanitarian nutrition programming in emergency and protracted crisis contexts, including experience in cluster coordination.

A previous experience working in Afghanistan is a strong asset.

You have an in depth understanding of Global Nutrition Cluster (GNC) standards and guidance, the humanitarian architecture, and possess strong coordination, technical, and diplomacy skills.

You have good managerial skills, and communication skills including a strong command of professional written and spoken English.
